There have been phenomenal advancement in the ICT sector globally adding new importance, dimension of technology in wireless broadcasting technique. Since 1971 activities of Bangladesh Betar (the then Radio Bangladesh) have increased manifold. At present it broadcasts 237 hours 05 minutes programme daily.

As an electronic medium Bangladesh Betar plays a very vital role in the overall development process. It is very popular among all sections of people for its universality, accessibility, diversity, and ability to create positive impact. Bangladesh Betar through its country wide network broadcast programmes on Agriculture, Education, Health and nutrition, Children and Women Development, Environment, Sanitation, Arsenic mitigation, anti-dowry, HIV/AIDS, Immunization, Poverty elimination, Forestry, Industrialization, Self sufficiency and combating Natural Calamity. Bangladesh today has made a tremendous progress in the fields of agriculture, population control, health and nutrition, poverty alleviation, literacy and environment. Bangladesh has almost attained self-sufficiency in food which had severe deficiency in the 1970’s and 1980’s. The fertility rate of population is now 1.5% per annum. The percentage of the population living below the poverty line is also going down. Bangladesh Betar has been playing a contributing role in achieving such progresses.

Priority has been given to the reform initiatives of the present caretaker government in Betar programmes. Objectives of most of the motivational programmes are designed to speed up the development process. A Central Programme Production Cell is created in the Betar Headquarters under the supervision of Director (Programme) in May 2007 to produce programmes on Government's reforms and development measures. The most significant programmes produced and broadcast, so far on the issues like Fight Against Corruption and Violence, Power Management, Improvement of Law and Order, Good Governance, Voter ID and List preparation, Flood Relief and Rehabilitation, Supply and Marketing of Essential Commodities, Prevention Jatka Catching, etc in different formats- Jingle, Spot, Slogan, Spot Drama, Discussion, Interview, Documentary and Phone-in programme. Special programmes are also being broadcasted in FM channels from Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Rangpur and Sylhet stations.

Bangladesh Betar, the only national radio network in Bangladesh, is a combined and well co-ordinated effort of different units which make it possible to achieve the dignity and status which it desires. Mainly four wings are working altogether to make Bangladesh Betar perform i.e. to take it to the listeners. Their work-procedure is quite distinctive. Nevertheless, they are complementary to each other.

Bangladesh Betar is working in coordination with the above four wings and for technical as well as a few logistics support, Bangladesh Betar has close co-operation with several international organization including Asian broadcasting Union (ABU), Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), Commonwealth Broadcasting Association (CBA), British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Voice of America (VOA), Chinese Radio International and SAARC countries.
